The Old Growth - New Life exhibition at Paradise Wood Sculpture Grove is the culmination of twenty five years of experience, eighteen months of labor and 200 tons of raw materials. There are many forces at play in this exhibition. There is a rugged beauty in the power of the raw materials, and elegant beauty in the polished grain and copper details of the finished sculpture.T H E T H E M ERather than thinking of art and nature as opposite forces to be balanced, I see them as parallel forces seeking equilibrium. Art and nature, yin and yang, East and West, object and idea, science and spirit, the universe and our own life force.

I have been blessed with the passion and energy, as well as the time and materials, to create these sculptures. I am deeply grateful to my assistant Patrick Fisher for his friendship, patience and dedication to the work - Thank you! And thank you Jeremy and Yolan and Matt too for your great work. So many hands have worked together. Thank you Walter and Marjike Byck and Paradise Ridge Winery for creating Paradise Wood Sculpture Grove and for your generous funding of this year's exhibit. Thank you Barclay and Sharon Simpson for your early support of this project. And a special thanks to my dear wife, Margie - your patience and support is extraordinary.
Thanks to my brother Evan Johnson for his photography and Suzanne Hernandez for her web design.
